How often do Aspen® Collar pads need to be changed?

We recommend cleaning the pads daily. The patient can clean the pads with the same soap or cleaning product they use to clean their face. Gently squeeze out excess water from the pads and lay them on a towel to dry. NEVER PUT PADS IN A DRYER. It takes approximately 8 hours to air dry depending on environmental conditions. See also Patient Handbook.

Where can more pads be purchased?

Extra pads can be purchased from the facility where the collar was purchased or by calling our office at 800/295-2776 to locate the Orthotic Facility closest to you.

How do I select the correct size?

See the sizing guide for instructions. The Aspen® Cervical Collar is designed to be supported by the bony structure, which will allow for the neck to be free from contact with any part of the collar.

To ensure a good fit, the chin piece should be even with the end of the chin (flush with the end).

If the chin hangs over the chin piece and/or the bar under the chin piece is touching the esophagus, the collar is too short.

If the chin sits inside the collar with the chin piece hanging out, the collar is too tall.

The Aspen® Collar is made of polyethylene plastic, which will allow for the tabs on the bottom to bend to relieve pressure. The tabs can also be trimmed away if necessary to achieve a more custom fit.

How do I fit a patient with a very short neck?

A Small Back Panel, which is designed for patients with short necks and for patients who are supine for a long period of time, is available. For short necks, the Small Back is generally used with the Short Front to obtain a good fit. The smaller back has less plastic area, giving more cushion when lying down, which helps prevent pressure sores.
